Two Man United players could be in the World Cup final but nine players were ejected at the quarter-final stage.

The Manchester United players who were eliminated from the World Cup at the quarter-final stage are expected to return to training on Monday.

Nine United players suffered ejection from the competition with their nations in the last eight, with Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez and France starter Raphael Varane the club’s only remaining participants in Qatar.

France overcame England 2-1 on Saturday night, ending Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford’s hopes of becoming the first England team to win a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

Portugal pair Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes started in their shock defeat to Morocco, with Dalot forced off late on with an apparent hamstring injury.

Brazil lost to Croatia in a penalty shootout on Friday with Casemiro, Fred and Antony all on the pitch. Tyrell Malacia was the only United player not to play a minute at the World Cup and the Netherlands lost to Argentina on spotkicks in an ill-tempered quarter-final.
Christian Eriksen and Facundo Pellistri returned to United’s Carrington training complex this week as Denmark and Uruguay went out at the group stage.
