This is how Chelsea will lineup with Marcus Thuram once he completes his transfer in the summer

Clubs across Europe will be moving to pounce for Marcus Thuram after Borussia Moenchengladbach confirmed that the forward will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move away from Gladbach in January after impressing at the World Cup with Qatar, but a transfer didn’t materialise.

The German club missed their last opportunity to bring in any cash for Thuram as he has not agreed a new deal and will be moving on in the summer.

Gladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus told Sport1: ‘We’ve decided to allow Thuram to leave. The fact he will leave on a free is not a positive situation. I can’t sugarcoat it.

We have to accept that there are bigger clubs he might move to.’

It is certainly a blow for the Bundesliga side as Thuram is enjoying the best season of his career, scoring 11 league goals so far and 14 in all competitions.

To lose him at all is disappointing, but for him to depart on a free transfer is a bit of a disaster as he would attract a significant fee in the current transfer market.

The son of France legend Lilian, Thuram is not going to be short of options for a new club after a string of powerhouses were linked with him in January.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool were all mentioned as interested parties, while Inter Milan have also been touted and Barcelona are also keen.

After the signings Chelsea and Liverpool made in January they may no longer be pushing for the Frenchman’s signature, but plenty still will be, and with no transfer fee involved he will command eye-watering wages wherever he ends up.
