Romano confirms, ten Hag is ready to let ’85-goal star’ go to generate funds for club-record signing

February 8, 2023

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is prepared to list a £57 million signing this summer in order to raise money for a star-studded new hire.

Erik ten Hag has had a great start to his tenure at Old Trafford and on Wednesday, he will have the chance to record his 14th straight victory at home. Additionally, they will enter the game as overwhelming favorites as they look to tie Manchester City for the lead in points with a victory over managerless Leeds.

In actuality, United are far outperforming expectations under the Dutchman. Ten Hag will have set his sights on a significant improvement and closing the gap with the top teams after finishing sixth at home the previous season. That was a concerning 35 points during the previous season.

However, if they defeat Leeds, they will tie City on points despite having played one more game and having a worse goal differential.

However, if United stays on its current course, it won’t be long before they can start making plans to play in the Champions League once more.

Additionally, it will make United even more appealing to potential summer recruits. And after spending so little in January, United is probably going to spend a lot this summer in an effort to bolster their team even more.

And according to a source, the club will reportedly want to offload six high-profile stars this summer in order to raise even more money.

Man United wants to offload Anthony Martial

One of the biggest names among the six appears to be Anthony Martial.

In the summer of 2015, the Frenchman relocated to Old Trafford for a figure that ultimately exceeded £57 million. Martial, who is currently in his sixth season with the team, has made 283 appearances for the Red Devils and scored 85 goals.

Martial has only made six Premier League starts this season, despite being revered and respected by Ten Hag. He has six goals in 14 games across all competitions, but at Old Trafford, he isn’t considered a starter attacking roles.

Alejandro Garnacho’s rise to prominence does seem to have changed Ten Hag’s mind. Time appears to be up for Martial with Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga, and Marcus Rashford also available in the wide attacking roles.
