Man United returned to action with a solid win over Burnley to advance in the Carabao Cup..
Marcus Rashford has revealed winning the Carabao Cup would help push Manchester United on even further this season.
United returned to the field for the first time since November 13 on Wednesday evening as they beat Championship leaders Burnley to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition. Christian Eriksen tapped in the opener in the first half after good work from Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka while Rashford bagged the second with a stunning solo strike.
Erik ten Hag will be aiming to end United’s five-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup and Rashford has explained from experience that doing so would be a massive boost to their confidence. United last won the trophy in 2017 and then went on to lift the Europa League.
It’s massively important for us because when we last won it, it just pushed us,” he told MUTV. “We were chasing that feeling again, it does a whole lot for your confidence and the desire to keep winning. It will be massive for us to try and win that and all the players and staff are giving everything to do that.”
Rashford picked up where he left off with his form before the World Cup despite the heartbreaking circumstances of England’s exit from the tournament. The striker also explained how he has worked hard to get over such a stinging blow.
