Man United can further cement their place in the top four of the Premier League with a win against the Foxes
Manchester United fans have backed Marcel Sabitzer and Lisandro Martinez to return to action for this afternoon’s Premier League clash at home to Leicester City.
The Reds welcome Brendan Rodgers’ side to Old Trafford with the chance to further cement their place in the top four following Newcastle United’s defeat at home to Liverpool on Saturday. Three points will take Erik ten Hag’s men onto 49 for the season, extending their lead over fifth-placed Tottenham to 10 points before they host West Ham later on Sunday, although a Foxes side who have won their last two will be no easy task.
With just three days to rest and prepare after Thursday’s thrilling 2-2 Europa League draw at Barcelona, and no doubt with one eye on next week’s crucial return leg at Old Trafford, United boss Ten Hag may be inclined to introduce some fresh legs and Reds supporters have predicted exactly that.
Sabitzer and Martinez were both suspended for Thursday’s trip to Camp Nou after picking up three European bookings prior to the winter break, meaning the pair will be ready to start this afternoon.
Argentinian defender Martinez has been a near-ever-present in the league this season, starting 21 of the Reds’ 23 games, and he will likely slot in alongside Raphael Varane and left-back Luke Shaw. Diogo Dalot has also been tipped to reclaim his place in the starting line-up after being benched in Spain.
Sabitzer has featured in all three league games since joining on loan from Bayern Munich, with an injury and suspension crisis in midfield seeing the Austrian thrown in at the deep end. Casemiro will serve the last of his three-game ban this afternoon while Scott McTominay continues to recover from injury, with United fans backing a midfield trio of Sabitzer, Fred and Bruno Fernandes.
And the Old Trafford faithful have suggested changes up top as well, with Wout Weghorst dropped to the bench as he continues to search for a first league goal. Marcus Rashford has been dangerous from any position this season but recent weeks have seen the 25-year-old move into a central role at times, and supporters have urged Ten Hag to start him as the leading man, with Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho offering plenty of pace from the wings.
