United enjoyed a fruitful summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag spending well in excess of £200m to reshape his squad.

United made a slow start to the new season, losing their first two games, including an embarrassing loss at Brentford, but an unexpected and most welcome win over Liverpool in Ten Hag’s third game kickstarted a vast improvement.

They were brought back down to earth by a 6-3 defeat to Manchester City but have recovered well. And with thoughts turning towards the January window, we take a look at all the players United are being linked with and who the original source of the story is.

The uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford was one of the biggest talking points during the summer transfer window.

After United only qualified for the Europa League, he made the Red Devils aware of his desire to add to his Champions League legacy at another club.

United initially insisted that they wanted to keep the 37-year-old but reports late in August suggested that they performed a U-turn and were open to a sale.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid all distanced themselves from a deal for Ronaldo, who ultimately ended up staying at Old Trafford. We’ve rounded up the latest major news about the forward.

– Sporting manager Ruben Amorin is against signing Ronaldo, who doesn’t yet want to drop out of Europe’s top five leagues. (Ben Jacobs, October 31).

Napoli were interested in Ronaldo over the summer and are still keen but his wages could be an obstance to any deal. (The Sun, October 24).

– Ronaldo will prioritise a move within Europe if he does leave United in January. There is interest from MLS and Saudi Arabia but the forward wants to continue his Champions League legacy. (Fabrizio Romano, October 24).

Frenkie de Jong 

United were heavily linked with De Jong throughout the summer transfer window and reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona.

While the move didn’t materialise, the transfer rumour mill hasn’t stopped and we’ve rounded up the latest major news about the midfielder.

– De Jong has decided against leaving Barcelona if anyone comes calling in the January transfer window. (Sport, October 30).

– United are still interested in the midfielder but Chelsea and Liverpool are also exploring a possible deal. (ESPN, October 21).

Ten Hag is begging United chiefs to launch a fresh bid to sign Se Jong in January and believes a deal will happen this time. (Sport, October 20).

– United have maintained contact with Barcelona in regards to resurrecting the De Jong deal in the future. (The Independent, October 10).

Jude Bellingham

Bellingham has become one of the most sought-after players in the world and we’ve rounded up rumours linking him with United.

– Dortmund will demand £129m if they are going to sell Bellingham next summer. (Bild, October 31).
