Manchester United player ratings as Fred and Marcus Rashford good vs Charlton

January 10, 2023

Man United beat Charlton in their Carabao Cup quarter-final and here are how the players rated at Old Trafford..

Tom Heaton

Handled dependably on his long overdue full debut at the age of 36. Commanding in the aerial duels and kept a clean sheet. 7

Diogo Dalot

Had a couple of tetchy exchanges with Antony before he was forced off injured in the 35th minute. 6

Harry Maguire

Passed adventurously and did not lack for confidence ahead of a probable derby demotion. Looked more unsettled in the second half. 6

Lisandro Martinez

A reasonable return. Guilty of some lapses in the second half. A valuable 90 minutes ahead of facing Erling Haaland on Saturday. 6

Tyrell Malacia

Might be off corners after two execrable efforts. Effectively played as a winger but lacked a killer pass and booked for a cynical foul. 5

Scott McTominay

Lost far too many duels against the combative League One side and his passing was particularly poor in contrast to Fred. 5

Played proactively and found Antony for the opening goal. Struck the inside of the post direct from a free-kick. Strangely substituted on the hour. 8

Kobbie Mainoo

A respectable debut that lasted an hour, Mainoo enjoyed some decent interplay in the final third before Casemiro replaced him. 6

Scored his fifth United goal and it was the best yet, a majestic left-footed curler. Too quiet thereafter, a trend the Brazilian can’t shake off. 6

Alejandro Garnacho

Started auspiciously, firing two shots, creating one chance and drawing one foul before the 10-minute mark. Guilty of frivolousness at times. 6

Anthony Elanga

Lacked presence and barely touched the ball in the first half. Well offside when he tapped in for a disallowed goal in the second. 4

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Booed by Charlton fans due to his Crystal Palace connection, he was defensively sound again. 6

Christian Eriksen

A threat on the ball but not on it enough. Drew a good save. 7

Classy and composed. Assisted Rashford. 7

Marcus Rashford

Scored to kill the game and then scored again. 8

Facundo Pellistri

After two years and three months, he finally made his debut in the 83rd minute. Bright and assisted Rashford. 7
