Manchester United monitoring Roma striker Tammy Abraham and more transfer rumours

March 7, 2023

Manchester United are continuing to monitor the progress of Roma striker Tammy Abraham ahead of a potential summer move for the player, according to reports.

As reported by the Athletic, the Reds have had scouts in attendance at Roma’s matches on several occasions this season, with Erik ten Hag targeting a new striker in the summer transfer window. The Manchester Evening News understands that the Dutchman wants at least two significant signings in the summer to maintain the club’s momentum next season.

However, with Romelu Lukaku due to return from his loan spell at Inter Milan in the summer, it remains to be seen if Graham Potter will move for a new forward. The Reds have been linked with Abraham on several occasions since he signed for Roma, with the England international having scored 34 goals in 87 games for the Italian club.

Elsewhere, Football Insider have reported that Newcastle United have shortlisted James Maddison and Reds midfielder Scott McTominay as transfer targets this summer.

The Magpies are reportedly keen to overhaul their midfield at the end of this season, with manager Eddie Howe, who is said to be a big admirer of McTominay, keeping tabs on the Scotsman’s situation at Old Trafford.
