Manchester United great Park Ji-Sung tips Jude Bellingham to follow in Wayne Rooney’s footsteps.

Former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung has backed Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham to follow in Wayne Rooney’s footsteps.

Rooney enjoyed a distinguished career after bursting onto the scene as a teenager, with the former Reds striker going on to win five Premier League titles, as well as the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and three League Cups. The Englishman registered 253 goals and 145 assists for United.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Bellingham has been tipped for a bright future in the game after impressing for Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga giants in 2020. The midfielder has also starred for England at the World Cup in Qatar and has played in every single game for Gareth Southgate’s side so far at the tournament.

Bellingham has been linked with a move away from Germany next summer and is attracting interest from a number of clubs round the world, with United one of the sides interested in the former Birmingham City man.

Asked if Bellingham is capable of becoming a superstar in England at a young age like United legend Rooney, Ji-Sung told talkSPORT: “Yeah, I think so. He’s a young age but he’s been brilliant at Dortmund and at the World Cup. He’s the key man for England in the middle of the park.

“He’s a really important player for England he has the potential to be the best in the world.”

Ji-Sung, who won four Premier League titles and the Champions League with the Reds, was also asked if the Three Lions could win the World Cup.

He added: “The expectations are so high in England because they have done very well under Gareth Southgate through the last World Cup and Euros.

“This World Cup could be their time to win the trophy, but it is not easy. The quarter-final against France is really big… let’s see how they deal with that.”

England cruised past reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal in the Round of 16 to set-up a quarter-final clash with France on Saturday evening.
