Romeo Lavia of Southampton is being “followed” by Manchester United, along with other transfer ruмors.
Romeo Lavia, a 19-year-old midfielder for Southampton who recently arrived from Manchester City, has apparently attracted interest from Manchester United.
The Daily Mail reports that United and Arsenal are claimed to be fans of the Belgian star, and that Chelsea, a rιvɑl in the Premier League, is also reportedly interested in signing him.
Lavia signed a five-year contract and transferred from City to the Saints last summer in a transaction potentially up to £14m. He has made frequent appearances for Southampton, recording one goal and one assist in 20 outings across all competitions. This season, the midfielder’s injuries have kept him out of seven Premier League games.
According to the article, Pep Guardiola’s team has a buyback clause in the agreement worth about £40m, although it won’t take effect until the summer of 2019. According to MEN Sport, Erik ten Hag is urging the team to sign a striker over a midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.
TalkSPORT said that United is hoping that the possibility of working with Casemiro could entice Frenkie de Jong to join the team during the summer transfer window.
According to MEN Sport’s story from December, United has not ruled out making a second attempt to sign Barcelona midfielder De Jong. It is also said that despite publicly stating that he preferred to remain at Barca, the Dutchman privately assured his former Ajax coach Ten Hag that he was happy to join the Reds.
The Reds and the Catalan club agreed to a €85m transfer fee for the midfielder in the summer, but the 25-year-wage old’s deferral proved to be an impassable roadblock. United chose Casemiro instead, acquiring the Brazilian international from Real Madrid.
Ten Hag is apparently hoping to persuade his fellow Dutchman to quit Barcelona at the end of the season because Casemiro has flourished at Old Trafford since joining the Reds, with talkSPORT’s source adding that the former Ajax star may be more tempted than he was last year. The 25-year-old finds it a “interesting proposal” to partner Casemiro in United’s midfield.
