Man United preparing to step up their interest in Goncalo Ramos

It’s now pretty common knowledge that Manchester United’s number one need going into the summer window is a new forward.

The Old Trafford club need to find that hitman who’ll guarantee goals. Harry Kane seems to be the top target, though acquiring the Englishman is going to be easier said than done.

No doubt the club scouts are doing their due diligence and looking at other options – including Goncalo Ramos.

The young man emerged during the World Cup, while he’s enjoying a good season for Benfica back in his homeland, scoring 25 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Now, The Mirror believe United are preparing to ‘step up’ their interest in the 21-year-old attacker.

Ramos is viewed as a ‘brilliant prospect’ by United, with the club now set to initiate contact about possibly acquiring the young foward.

A deal between £70-100m is set to be discussed, which could become United’s record transfer fee paid if the £89.3m deal to sign Paul Pogba is beaten.

It’s stated that Ten Hag wants to work with the youngster, as the United gaffer is ‘desperate’ to sign a forward and add more firepower to a squad that definitely needs it.

It’s reiterated that Tottenham’s Kane remains the number one priority, though that signing will be far from easy.

On the flip side, Benfica have a history of selling their better players, though they tend to receive great transfer fees for their stars. No doubt they’re hoping Ramos will become their most expensive sale yet.

At the end of the day, United need a 20+ goal-a-season striker. Ramos is someone who could offer that from day one, while he’s still young enough to grow and develop even further as a player.
