Manchester United former player, Roy Keane has blasted the club after Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the bench again in their defeat to Manchester City.
The Portuguese was an unused player at the Etihad Stadium as he watch from the bench while Pep Guardiola’s men thrashed his side 6-3.
Speaking about how the five-times Ballon d’Or winner has been relegated to the bench this season, Roy Keane said United are disrespecting him and should have allowed him to leave during the just concluded transfer window.
He told Sky Sports that “Manchester United should have let Cristiano Ronaldo leave the club in the summer. They are disrespecting him.”
“If you look at his goalscoring record, he has as much chance as any player to put the ball in the back of the net. He’s one of the greatest players of all time and if he’s sitting week in, week out on the bench at Manchester United it’s not good,” the former club captain player said.
“They should have let him go when the opportunity came up. He had options, I know that for sure, and to hang on to him to sit on the bench I think is ridiculous for a player of his stature.”
