Manchester United football director John Murtough has played down the prospect of making any January signings next year by insisting the club is focused on next summer’s window instead.
United backed new manager Erik ten Hag with a record level of investment of over £220million in the summer, as they added six new players to their first-team squad.
Ten Hag was backed with more money than initially intended, meaning that there won’t be as much investment made when they take the next step in their rebuild next year.

Murtough addressed the latest United fans’ forum last month, explaining their transfer plans and why they shouldn’t expect any movement in the upcoming winter window.
“Ultimately, we made a record level of investment for a single window, reflecting the conditions in the market, but also our commitment to supporting the manager,” Murtough said.
“We always said that reshaping the squad would take more than a window and we’re already working with Erik on the next steps in that process, with a focus on next summer and beyond.
