WORLD Cup star Sofyan Amrabat reportedly offered to play for FREE in order to secure a move to Barcelona.
After a great performance for Morocco in Qatar, the midfielder for Fiorentina has his sights set on a major transfer. However, despite Amrabat’s best efforts, the financially stressed Barcelona club was unable to complete the trade.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 26-year-old player was ready to play for free in the event that it resulted in a transfer to his dream club, the Nou Camp.
They sαy that the superstar was willing to have his salaries sent to Fiorentina in order to assist Barcelona in paying back a debt that they took out.
This would have been in addition to the rυmored loan offer of £5.3 million that Barcelona made in an effort to get him to Catalonia until the end of the current campaign. Fiorentina, on the other hand, was able to successfully ward off interest in their best player.
Chelsea and Manchester United have also been mentioned in connection with Amrabat, with Erik ten Hag’s side thought to have been particularly aggrҽssive in their pursuit of a transfer in January.
The Dutchman handled Amrabat for two seasons at Utrecht and most likely was aware of his skill before he displayed it on the international scene with Morocco. Amrabat has played for Morocco in two World Cups.
The two players, along with their midfield partner Azzedine Ounahi, who was also said to be interested in a move to England, were instrumental in guiding Morocco to the nation’s first ever World Cup semifinal. The African nation surprisҽd everyone by finishing first in their group and then advanced all the way to the semi-finals by defeating teams like Spain and Portugal along the way.
In the semifinals, France would end up being too strong for the team captained by Walid Regragui.
