Chelsea have offered assurances to 23-yr-old to lure him to the club

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese international Rafael Leao at the end of the season.

According to a report via Tutto Mercato Web, the player is struggling to reach a contract renewal agreement with AC Milan and the Blues are ready to pounce.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Italian outfit and he helped them win the league title last season. Leao has been in fine form this season as well scoring 9 goals and picking up 9 assists across all competitions.

It is no secret that Chelsea need to add more goals to their attack and the 23-year-old would be a superb long-term acquisition.

Apparently one of the reasons why Leao has struggled to reach a contract agreement with AC Milan is the Italian outfit’s refusal to help him with the €18 million fine he has to pay to his former club Sporting CP.

When Leao left Sporting on a free transfer following a training ground incident, the Portuguese outfit decided to approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the player was ordered to pay €18m fine. Apparently, Leao wants the help of AC Milan to pay the fine.

It seems that Chelsea have offered him certain assurances if he moves to the London club at the end of the season. The report does not mention clearly whether Chelsea will be paying the fine on behalf of the player but it seems that they might be able to offer him the help Milan are not able to.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can lure him to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old is yet to enter his peak years and he is only going to get better with experience and coaching. The Portuguese international has all the attributes to develop into a world-class player and he could improve Chelsea immensely in the final third.
