Chelsea have been linked with a move for Vitor Roque as the Brazilian wonderkid discusses claims over a transfer this summer
Chelsea have been handed hope in signing Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque this summer after the youngster admitted he has no preference in which club he joins in the future. The youngster has had an impressive breakout year in senior football, gaining plenty of attention at Athletico Paranaense.
The 18-year-old was free scoring at the under-20s South American Championships last month, earning Brazil the trophy at the end of the tournament. That has led him to finding a place in the senior squad for the March internationals for the first time, underlining his quick rise to the top.
Any hope for the two London clubs in landing the striker looked as though they may have been dashed in February after an admission over joining Barcelona. He told Sport: “I feel ready to play for Barcelona. Look, I try to stay focused on the day-to-day and give my best at Athletico. I’m sure that if I do well here, going to Europe will be a possibility.”
That claim may have show Roque would prefer a move to the Camp Nou over Stamford Bridge or the Emirates Stadium, though that may not neccessarily be the case. The youngster has since clarified he has no preference over where he ends up and will continue working to reach the top level.
He told AS: “I prefer to focus on the present instead of the future, because today is more important than tomorrow. My future is in the hands of God, so I am going to keep working with humility. My future will be a result of the work I do today… I try not to think about things that go on off the pitch. I don’t have a preferred club. I think that right now, Paranaense is the best fit for me.”
It remains to be seen if there will be a conclusion to the transfer saga when it reaches the summer months. However, Roque won’t be short of suitors if he is available, with a move to Europe likely.
