Thiago Silva has confirmed to ESPN that he wants to stay at Chelsea and that the new contract should be concluded in the next few days.
Silva has been one of the key men since joining Chelsea in 2020, the Brazilian legend is 38 years of age and still starts most games for the club.
Not only is he still vital on the pitch, Thiago is a key member of the dressing room and the club feel like his experience will be vital as Chelsea continue to rebuild and reshape the club with young players.
Thiago also spoke on the departure of Jorginho to Arsenal, something which he said he did not expect :
“I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, we lost one of our great leaders in the dressing room, Jorginho, a guy who spoke a lot, this gap will remain but we have to move on. We did not expect him to leave but it happened, make up for this absence in the best possible way”
Thiago is right, Chelsea will miss Jorginho on and off the pitch, after all, he was the vice captain of the club but players like Thiago will be extremely valuable over the next couple of seasons. As a Chelsea fan, I can only hope he stays for as long as possible.
